MISSION STATEMENT

Child and Family Institute is dedicated to the healing of different types of trauma and its impact upon children, teens and their families. Traditional as well as new and promising practice modalities are utilized, all with the intent of reducing the impacts of abuse and neglect. Achievement of these goals is based on the belief system that healing is possible and that growth can spring from that healing.

STATISTICS

The prevalence of child abuse is alarming:
In 2006, "905,000 children were determined victims of abuse and neglect" (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2006)

During 2002, 60.5 percent of victims experienced neglect (including medical neglect): 18.6 were physically abused; and 6.5 percent were emotionally or psychologically maltreated (Children's Bureau 2002) In 2006 , more than 1500 children were victims of child maltreatment (National Child Maltreatment Statistics, 2006)

Children under the age of 3 made up nearly 80% of the child maltreatment fatalities (National Child Maltreatment Statistics, 2006)

Child and Family Institute (CFI) works hard to overcome the impact of child abuse and other forms of family trauma to create a healthier and safer community for children and families. By equipping both the child and family with the proper tools for understanding and healing, the children of our community can hope for a brighter future.
